Theresa Toohey: My wife. She doesn’t care much for chess. I include her because she is kind and long-suffering in regards to my hobby. She is an angel and the most wonderful of wives and mothers.

Jason Toohey: My brother, my foil. He is handsome, I am not. He is buff, I am not. He is disciplined, I am not. Of course, he doesn't quite see it that way, which is probably why we can still tolerate each other. On the chessboard we’re actually pretty equal. If he really applied himself, though, I think he'd leave me behind. I can’t thank him enough for reintroducing me to chess.

Kevin Skarritt: I met him on the morning of my first chess tournament, the Livermore Open, in November of 1996. It was his first tournament too, and we have since become the best of friends. We play online and live, marathon sessions where we forget to eat or sleep. He also designed this nifty website for me, and for that among so many other things, I thank him.

Julie Skarritt: Kevin’s wife. I include her because, well, fair is fair. As for whether she is the most wonderful, you’ll have to ask Kevin yourself.

NM Gjon Feinstein: My chess teacher. Unfortunately, life has kept us from restoring our lessons, but there is no person of kindness and peace like Gjon. Of course, you’d never know it when he’s picking you apart over the board. He teaches several scholastic programs in Santa Cruz County and is still available for private lessons at very reasonable rates. I encourage you to contact him at paladin@cruzio.com

The Chesshouse: http://www.thechesshouse.com These guys are the best. I buy as much chess “stuff” as I can from them. Don’t shop anywhere else, because they have tons of the right products, and they are the nicest, most helpful bunch around.
